Ethics & Content Governance
When addressing issues related to victims’ rights, VST follows principles of human rights, dignity, and do no harm, while balancing the public’s right to know with the protection of people in vulnerable situations.
1. Do No Harm
When content involves victims, violence, or traumatic experiences, VST prioritizes the dignity and safety of affected individuals.
- We avoid publishing identifiable personal information (such as names, addresses, schools, images, or traceable identifying clues).
- For violent crime, sexual violence, or cases involving children, we avoid detailed reconstruction or sensationalized narratives.
- When case examples are discussed, the analysis focuses primarily on institutional, legal, or policy dimensions rather than personal details.
2. Respectful Language
VST adopts a victims’ rights–centered narrative approach.
- We avoid stigmatization, victim-blaming, or instrumentalizing victims’ experiences.
- Victims are presented as rights-holders with agency, including their needs, remedies, and participation, rather than solely through narratives of suffering.
- Where appropriate, we use concepts and terminology consistent with international human rights and victims’ rights frameworks.
3. Conflict of Interest
To maintain credibility and transparency, VST follows a conflict-of-interest disclosure principle.
- If authors have roles, partnerships, or interests that could influence their judgment regarding the topic, these will be disclosed transparently.
- VST content focuses on public policy discussion, institutional analysis, and knowledge synthesis, and does not constitute legal advice for individual cases.
- When specific cases are referenced, discussion is generally limited to publicly available information and systemic issues.
4. AI Use and Editorial Responsibility
VST may use AI tools to assist with research organization, translation, or formatting. However:
- All content is reviewed and finalized by human editors.
- AI tools serve only as supporting tools and do not replace editorial judgment or research responsibility.
- Published content remains the responsibility of the editors for its accuracy and presentation.
5. Copyright and Attribution
Unless otherwise stated, content on this website is licensed under Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
- Non-commercial use, educational research, and policy advocacy citations are permitted.
- Users must provide proper attribution to the author and link to the source.
- When citing third-party materials, VST follows fair-use principles and proper source attribution.
